The fondness of a 3-year-old Great Dane to socks almost cost its own life. This developed after the pet dog underwent an emergency surgery to remove 43 socks that it eat from its owners.According to reports, the owner of the dog, a family in Portland Oregon, noticed their Great Dane repeatedly vomiting and retching all day.
Sensing trouble the family immediately rushed the dog to the DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital in northwest Portland. The succeeding abdominal radiographs showed “a large quantity of foreign material” in the dog’s stomach. At that instance the vets went to work, performing an exploratory surgery, and what they found is almost hard to believe.
They removed 43 and 1/2 socks from the dog’s stomach. Sources said the dog looked okay after the surgery and is expected to have a full recovery soon. Ashley Magee, a staff surgeon at Dove Lewis said “for whatever reason, dogs do tend to like to eat their owner’s clothing, whether it’s an anxiety thing (and) they are missing their owners, or the person on the clothing attracts them, or whether they’re mad, who knows”?
The Great Dane is a German breed of domestic dog (Canis lupus familiaris) known for its giant size. The name of the breed in Germany is Deutsche Dogge (German Mastiff). They are known for their enormous bodies and great height.
The Great Dane is one of the world’s tallest dog breeds; the current world record holder, measuring 112 cm (44 in) from paw to shoulder, is “Zeus”. Their large size belies their friendly nature, as Great Danes are known for seeking physical affection with their owners.
